September 2020 Volunteer Spotlight

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on volunteers to spotlight! For September 2020, we wanted to showcase someone who makes it a point to be at Christkindlmarkt: Sandy Thomas!

Q: What inspired you to begin volunteering?
A: There are two reasons why I volunteer at ArtsQuest. First is my passion for the performing arts. I’ve been dancing since the age of three. The second reason is because I worked at Bethlehem Steel for ten years. Combine the two and it’s a perfect fit for me.

Q: What do you enjoy most about volunteering at Christkindlmarkt?
A: I enjoy working at the Information Booth at Christkindlmarkt. It’s very rewarding to help our visitors navigate through Christkindlmarkt as well as our beautiful Christmas City. Every shift is a new adventure!

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else besides ArtsQuest?
A: I am still working, so that limits my volunteer time. Besides ArtsQuest, I volunteer for the AAUW Book Sale.

Q: When you’re not volunteering for ArtsQuest, what do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I enjoy traveling (especially overseas), taking community tap classes with Tap Ties, teaching Zumba Gold classes, relaxing on the beach in Avalon (NJ), and spending time with my three grandchildren – Jackson, Ryder, and Reagan. Obviously, some of these answers are pre-COVID.

Q: If you could bring any act the Musikfest Café, who would it be and why?
A: Straight No Chaser – because they have a special place in my heart. Jerome Collins was one of my students when I was choreographing the musicals at William Allen High School many years ago. I knew back then that he had a very special talent. I am THRILLED for Jerome and for SNC’s success.

Q: What things do you believe make Bethlehem such a holiday destination over other areas in the region?
A: The ambiance of historic Bethlehem at Christmastime is magical. There are so many things to do and Christkindlmarkt is one of the highlights!
