October 2021 Volunteer Spotlight

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on volunteers to spotlight. For October 2021, we selected someone who has been a trusted volunteer at Musikfest, Levitt season, Christkindlmarkt—almost everything ArtsQuest has ever done: Greg Lorah!

Q: What inspired you to begin volunteering?
A: My family has always instilled the value of “giving back”. I have volunteered as long I can remember. As for my involvement with ArtsQuest, it was the perfect timing. Just as I approached retirement, I found an organization that had so many different opportunities. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Q: After experiencing how ArtsQuest has grown throughout the years, what are most excited about where we might go in the future?
A: Why limit the vision? There are so many individuals offering suggestions, I am certain there are future plans that I have never ever thought about. Change is vital to any organization. That is the exciting part of ArtsQuest.

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else besides ArtsQuest?
A: I usually try one or two new things a year. But for right now, ArtsQuest remains my primary focus.

Q: When you’re not volunteering for ArtsQuest, what do you like to do in your spare time?
A: Read, read, read. My family time with my Dad, kids & grandkids. Cooking, outdoor times, vacations.

Q: If you could pick any act to play at Musikfest, who would you pick and why?
A: Nope, can’t answer this one. First, a lot of my favorite groups are no longer around (lol). And second, the whole idea of “Festing” is to hear new sounds and experiences. I am more then happy to have Patrick and his team select for me.

Q: What was one of the craziest shifts you’ve ever had as a volunteer, and how did you manage to make it through to the other side?
A: If you want to hear stories of crazy shifts, sit down and listen to some of the experiences of our “long term” volunteers. Some of the tales may even have some basis in truth! I am only a few years in, and still collecting my ArtsQuest stories.
