January 2022 Volunteer Spotlight

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on volunteers to spotlight. For January 2022, we wanted to recognize a volunteer who keeps Steel Stage concert goers hydrated and Ushers often: Nina Mccullough!

Q: What inspired you to begin volunteering?
A: When I first moved to the Lehigh Valley I was semi-retired and looking for ways to get out in the community to meet people as well as contribute to my new home town(s).

Q: Do you have a favorite performance you experienced during a shift you worked at the Steel Stage?
A: Boy, that’s a hard choice but I think I have to go with Zedd from this past summer (2021). The audience was so carefree and the music/lights were so awesome! Honorable mentions go to Kesha and Styx (in the pouring rain).

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else besides ArtsQuest?
A: Yes! I have been a volunteer at St Luke’s hospital since 2014 – in the NICU for the past 2-3 years cuddling babies (it’s a tough gig but somebody has to do it lol). Last spring I started volunteering for the Cancer Support Community’s Strides for Hope campaign as an awareness volunteer. We represent CSC at running and walking fundraisers for various cancer groups throughout the Valley letting people know that CSC’s services are available to patients and their families – completely FREE of charge!

Q: In your opinion, why is volunteering so important?
A: The feeling of satisfaction you get from helping others is immeasurable. Like those small acts of kindness but on a larger scale. Plus I was employed by nonprofits most of my career and volunteers are critical to these businesses.

Q: If you could pick any act to play at Musikfest, who would you pick and why?
A: There’s an 80’s cover band out of NYC called Back to the 80’s with Jessie’s Girl. They are similar to Rubix Cube but play more pop tunes. On the Steel Stage, maybe a 90’s rock band like Offspring or Pantera. Or early 2000’s hip-hop like Nelly or Usher. As popular as the country and classic rock acts are, I think this past summer showed that other genres can draw big crowds as well.

Q: What is your favorite genre of music?
A: Led Zeppelin, aren’t they a genre unto themselves lol. I am most definitely a rock n roll girl!
