February Volunteer Spotlight 2023

Each month, our Volunteer Committee decides which volunteers to recognize in the spotlight. For February 2023, the volunteer committee unanimously selected Marge Fitzgerald. Marge volunteers at ArtsQuest events throughout the year and has also been a Musikfest volunteer for over 30 years!!! We are so thankful to Marge for consistently showing up for ArtsQuest’s biggest events and advocating for local artists and musicians. Thank you, Marge!

Q: What inspired you to begin volunteering?
A: I choose ArtsQuest as a way to give back to the community where I was born and raised. I now live in Sellersville PA., but my heart is in Bethlehem where most of my family lives. I enjoy seeing my nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family members when I am volunteering at an event.  I am proud to be apart of an organization that took a Steel town that was in trouble to a site of arts and culture world renown. It keeps the memory of my family  mother, father, brother and aunts and uncles and grandparents alive in a new awakening. That they were part of history of this community. I have volunteered for 32 years and have enjoyed many volunteer events. I started at Musikfest when the main event was on the grounds of Moravian College, then graduated to Sand Island and the North Side as well as the South Side. I can’t believe when driving through the South Side how the community has improved thanks to ArtsQuest.

Q: What is something your fellow volunteers would be surprised to learn about you?
A: : I am recently retired. My career began as a dietary aide in St. Luke’s Hospital and then went on to become a Food Service Director and Dietitian. I currently an working part time at Grand View Hospital as well as teaching nutrition at Montgomery County Community College. I had played tennis since college and now I added pickle ball to my sport. As a volunteer, I used to Drive the professional tennis players when tournaments came to Phila. I have driven greats like Pete Sampras, Serena and Venus Williams as well as many greats to their hotel and tournaments.

Q:What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not volunteering?
A: Attend shows at ArtsQuest, Levitt, Sellersville theater, State theater and any other venue that has good music. Of course, playing tennis and pickle ball and also traveling to places like Ireland and Italy and Hawaii.

Q: Other than Musikfest, what is your favorite Lehigh Valley event?
A: Other than Musikfest my favorite Lehigh Valley event is eating at local restaurants and shopping in the stores in town. Celtic Fest is another fun event in the area.

Q: If you could pick any act to play on the main stage at Musikfest, who would you pick and why?
A: If I could Pick any act I would choose the local artists like Craig Thatcher, Large Flowerheads, Aardvark as well as many others that live in the Valley.  I would like to see High Noon which is a local group in my area that does an amazing job in Country rock. They draw large crowds in many other areas of the Northeast. We need to support our local talent.
