2 Week Class

Wednesday, December 3-10 | 6-9 p.m.

Light and value are some of the key fundamentals in art making! Understanding and use of light can make or break a painting, contributing significantly to how cohesive an artwork feels, and how it captures atmosphere. Developing further comfort and understanding about light will improve your art making, no matter what your subject matter or medium!

In this workshop students will engage with classic exercises that develop a comprehensive understanding of how light works and how to handle it in painting and art making. They will then embark on a simple but mindful observational painting process, receiving guidance and support in attuning to what's really happening with this broad concept we often don't think too much on... what kind of light is hitting an object and how it's hitting it!

Alexandra Schnabel is a painter and art instructor who lives and works in Bucks County PA. Alexandra discovered her passion for oil painting at the Lehigh Valley Charter School for the Arts, and went on to earn her BFA from Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts. She now enjoys creating artwork that explores the human condition and the variable emotional experience in response to the visual world, with themes that ponder the self and relationship with how we engage with the world around us. Her paintings have been shown at venues such as The Allentown Art Museum, The Kimmel Center, Lehigh University and Phillips Mill Galleries. She teaches a variety of community based classes locally as well as private lessons and creativity mentorship programs out of her home studio.
