10 Week Class

Tuesdays, September 9-November 11 | 6-9 p.m.

In this class all the basics of wheel throwing will be covered. From centering, bringing up the walls and shaping. Basic hand building techniques will also be covered such as, slab building, pinching and coil building.

Each student will get an hour thirty minutes on the wheel and an roughly an hour thirty minutes of hand building. Minus demonstration time. Hand building is necessary for understanding how clay reacts and will help with the wheel throwing process.

The emphasis subject matter in this class will be mugs and cups. We will examine what makes a good mug and why. We will create hand built and wheel thrown mugs as well as a combination of both wheel and hand built mugs. Various techniques for making handles will also be covered.

For this class, the instructor recommends you bring a small a 5 1/2” X 8” sketch book for notes and glaze combination observations and experiments. Your sketchbook Is also helpful for sketching out future project ideas. A thine three ring binder is also recommended for class handouts. Some things to keep in mind. It is difficult to work with clay with long nails. Jewelry on hands and fingers will get in the way when working with clay so you may want to leave those items at home or secure them on a chain around your neck before class.

Warning* Clay is addicting, looking forward to sharing my obsession with you!
