Cita Rodriguez
Cita Rodriguez is a Grammy-nominated salsa singer/performer and daughter of late FANIA All Star, Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez. Raised in the Bronx, New York City and Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Cita started her singing career at the age of 16, as a background singer in her father’s band. After her father’s sudden death in 2000, Cita formed her own band, which she continues performing with today. Through the years, she has collaborated and traveled the world with various musicians, including The Mambo Legends Orchestra. In 2015, Cita joined with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) to release, “Cita Rodriguez En Un Homenaje A Graciela Perez,” a tribute album honoring the late Afro-Cuban singer, Graciela.
Having achieved a Masters degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the City College of New York, she is soon approaching 25 years as an NYC-based elementary school teacher.
Cita’s “GUAPA essence” stems from her inability to keep quiet! Whether through song and dance, building relationships with her students, or spending time with family, Cita’s all about pouring love, joy, and confidence into her loved ones. Her father’s combination of star-quality and humility has surely passed down to her and she carries this dual nature with her everywhere. Cita considers herself a great friend, caring soul sister to many, and of course, a GUAPA supporter of all people working hard on a daily basis in her communities.
