Intro to Standup with Kirk Griffiths
This class is an introduction to standup comedy from both a creative and practical approach. Attendees will learn and apply the basics of joke construction, acquire useful tips for beginners, and receive individualized feedback with the goal of producing 5 minutes of material. The class will culminate with a graduation show where participants will perform their material.
Kirk Griffiths a seasoned standup comedian with a knack for making people laugh, chuckle, and whistle expressions of joy. He has performed in theaters, comedy clubs, festivals, basements, attics, and once: a quinceañera (hope that you are doing well, Jessica!)
With over 10 years of experience, Kirk has featured for national headliners Mike Birbiglia, Chris Gethard, Michelle Buteau and a variety of other comedy veterans.
As an alumnus of Kutztown University who originally hails from the Bronx, NY, Kirk offers a range of perspective that can be heard throughout bodegas and cul-de-sacs. By taking this course, you will be provided with writing and performing exercises that will foster your comedy and stage presence.
