Volunteer Committee Q&A Responses

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on our amazing Volunteer Committee! To help you get to know them a little better, a few members answered some fun questions about themselves. From favorite memories to hidden talents, their responses add a personal touch to the great work they do, and we’re excited to share them with you in this newsletter!

1. What is your favorite memory as an ArtsQuest Volunteer?

  • Alan King – At my first outdoor gated event as a volunteer, asking Kassie to see her wristband and getting a very gracious reply.
  • Ron Kocher – Seeing Steely Dan, as part of Ushering.  I was not a fan before that night.  I just took the shift.  I left a fan.  And there’s no way to ever see the original lineup again.
  • Ronda Senior – Covid! As the world was at a standstill, AQ was very creative and trying to help the community to get back on their feet by holding food truck events on weekends and volunteers delivered the meals to their cars, to Levy chicken dinner pickups, to hosting a drive-through Three kings event so the children would still get their gifts, to hosting a completely 100% outdoor Christkindlmarkt not to mention the virtual Musikfest 2020! It was a difficult time, but my fondest memories are of the volunteers working 6 ft apart in masks and having fun. We all laughed and enjoyed each other’s company.
  • Marta Storm – Over my 35 years, I have SO MANY memories of my volunteering time at ArtsQuest! Spending time with other volunteers who have become close friends is the icing on the cake of volunteering! Of course, the music for me includes the best memories! Kassie Hilgert gave me the honor of introducing one of my favorite bands, Delta Rae, at the Cafe!! I was so nervous, but it was awesome! The Struts concert in the Cafe was another amazing favorite memory! Also, The Hooters finally singing at the Levitt was a fave moment!!
  • Cindy Workman – In 1992 volunteering for Verein (member) section of Kunstplatz (which was mainstage) and allowed to sit on steps of stage so when Lou Rawls was singing and as he was walking to left side of stage I felt he was singing to me!!!

2. What’s your dream vacation destination?

  • Alan King – Riding a train to travel through Europe.
  • Marta Storm – My dream vacation destination happened last summer with my granddaughter. A Two-week vacation in my homeland of Hungary, introducing her to all our relatives, visiting their villages, sharing our foods and culture with her. It was truly like a dream come true!  Japan is next in my list!! A close friend that I met in 8th grade lives in Osaka and visiting her would be amazing!
  • Ron Kocher – Australia.  I was there once but only saw Queensland.  I want to see Sydney and Melbourne.
  • Ronda Senior – Italy, I’ve been once but am planning to go back.

3. Do you have any hidden talents your fellow volunteers would be surprised to find out?

  • Marta Storm – I do a great chicken imitation and can speak fluent Hungarian!
  • Ronda Senior – I was a dance teacher in my younger days, and I can twirl a fire baton😁 of course they don’t allow kerosene in coffee cans (that’s how we managed to light the baton) anymore, can’t imagine why?!

4. What’s your go-to Karaoke song?

  • Marta Storm – “It’s My Life” – Bon Jovi, “Dancing in the Dark” – Bruce Springsteen, “Refugee” – Tom Petty and “I’m Alive” and “And We Danced” both by The Hooters (You asked! lol)
  • Ron Kocher – “Wichita Lineman” – Glen Campbell
  • Ronda Senior – “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” – Meat Loaf

5. What motivates you to serve on this committee and represent the ArtsQuest Volunteer community?

  • Alan King – Helping to promote the mission of ArtsQuest by serving to make the volunteer experience meaningful, rewarding and enjoyable for all.
  • Ron Kocher – To give back.  The public made my career possible, so now it’s my turn to give back.  I think we all need a civic organization we can participate in.
  • questions, comments and suggestions that I hear from other volunteers to the committee to improve everyone’s experiences!
  • Marta Storm – A motivation for serving on the volunteer committee is to help take
  • Ronda Senior – Being a voice for change and positivity for the volunteers!
  • Cindy Workman – Love volunteering and the energy the Volunteer committee helps to bring to each event is remarkable, making the patron experience a WOW. All our Volunteers have a special talent which they bring forth as well, and the bond and friendships made over the year is priceless!!!……our Volunteer Family is the BEST!
