Artist Statement:
My work grows from gestural abstraction and impasto traditions but seeks to expand those lineages into spatial composition beyond the two-dimensional surface, dissolving boundaries between painting and three-dimensional space and breaking the fourth wall. I seek to provoke engagement rather than dictate meaning, and to invite the viewer into a relational experience where the work acts as a catalyst for emotion and memory. The paintings ask for time and presence: to be walked around, felt, and viewed or experienced through human scale, which invites the viewer to use their whole body to read and feel the work. When a painting occupies the viewer’s intimate field, it changes the terms of engagement: looking becomes moving, seeing becomes sensing. By breaking the fourth wall, I aim for paintings that enter the viewer’s temporal and spatial experience—works that are not only seen but lived through. My surfaces are to be encountered over time; a painting reveals itself through proximity and movement, details emerge, shadows shift, and perception changes with each step.
Ultimately, my work is an inquiry into what painting can be when it refuses to be contained. It is an invitation to slow down, to spend time with material and mark, and to allow the body to register rhythm, texture, and scale.
The narratives within the paintings are personal and emotional, relating to my own life experiences but holding common connections to all of us and to the viewer. The more I give myself to the work, the more it gives to the viewer.
Painting has become a life practice, a continual negotiation between intention and surrender, between the private act of making and the public act of encountering.
