Volunteer Spotlight: Bill Watson

Bill Watson has been a cornerstone of Musikfest since day one, 1984! Yes, you read that right: he’s volunteered at every single Musikfest since its inception. Bill is truly one of the legends behind what has grown into the largest non-gated free music festival in the United States. Volunteers like Bill, who were there from the start, are the reason this incredible event has become what it is today. These days, you’ll find him at the Wind Creek Steel Stage, welcoming guests at the Steel Terrace and ensuring they have a great experience. On behalf of the entire volunteer team, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Bill for his decades of dedication and service!

How long have you been volunteering with us, and what inspired you to get started?

I started volunteering in the first year Musikfest (1984). My wife worked for First National Bank which was one of the first sponsors of Musikfest. They invited employees and their families to volunteer and that is how I got started.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering here?

I love seeing the people and volunteers every year but must of all I love the music.

What are some of your favorite hobbies or interests outside of volunteering?

Biking on the rail trail, watching Philly pro sports and doing projects on our house.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself that might surprise your fellow volunteers?

I am originally from Minersville Pa. After an industrial accident, I came to the Lehigh Valley to go to LCCC to get a Drafting degree. I worked for Mack Trucks in Customer Engineering for 40 years until I retired in 2024.
