Summer Arts Camps: Grades 6-8
Week 1: June 10-12
Studio Intensives are designed with middle school and high school students in mind. These camps offer young artists (entering grades 6-12) the opportunity to explore mediums in greater depth. Choose from different topics each week including painting, cartooning, fiber arts and sculpture, all taught by ArtsQuest’s talented Teaching Artists.

Art of Adornment

Students will adorn their favorite t-shirts, tote bags, and more using vintage buttons, fabric scraps, and other mixed media methods.

Printmaking
9 AM-12 PM
Students will explore different print-making techniques, which may include monoprints, collagraphs, cyanotypes, and more.
Write On!
12:30-3:30 PM
WRITE ON is a fun, creative writing class for teens that helps young writers explore and develop their own voices on the page. Through prompts, workshops, and discussion, students dive into fiction, poetry, songwriting, and memoir in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Whether you’re new to creative writing or already filling notebooks, WRITE ON is a place to build skills, confidence, and community while actually enjoying the process.
Mixed Media Exploration
12:30-3:30 PM
Students will create zines, bookmarks, and other art using and combining a variety of materials and techniques.

Mural Arts
9 AM-12 PM
Experience the process of creating a collaborative mural—from brainstorming and designing the mural to making a finished piece! Completed murals will go on display during Musikfest near Handwerkplatz.

Intro to Linoleum Block Printing
9 AM-12 PM
Students will learn how to create a linocut print. Throughout this intensive, students will learn about the history of printmaking and the different tools and materials used in the process. On the last day, students will walk away with an original print.

Cartooning and Anime

Students will have a great time learning the basics of drawing cartoons and anime as well as character design, principles, shading, line quality, proportion and more. Students will create traditional drawings on paper, as well as digital drawings using ProCreate.
Basic Weaving
12:30-3:30 PM
Warm up to weaving by making a bag on an upcycled cardboard loom. Then go big and work on more complex weavings to hang on a wall.
Week 3: June 22-26

Board Game Design

Students will design and create playable tabletop board games using recycled materials!
Intro to Crochet
9 AM-12 PM
Students will learn the basics of crochet including how to chain and create stitches. This intensive is designed in a way that allows students to learn at their own pace, with the goal of making either a hat or a bandana.
LED Plushie Monsters

For motivated learners looking for a challenge! Make a stuffed plushie that lights up. You’ll learn the basics of hand sewing to make your own little monster, then build an LED circuit to light up your creation.
Prick it! Print it! Patch it!

Print block prints on fabric patches and sew onto your favorite denim garment! Add embroidery, appliqué and more for a unique fashion statement!

Animation Exploration
9 AM-12 PM
Get ready to explore the exciting world of animation! Using iPads and the ToonSquid app, campers will learn the basics of 2D animation through fun projects and creative exercises. With imagination leading the way, campers will bring their ideas to life—one frame at a time!

Needlepoint, Cross-stitch, and Sewing, Oh My!

Within this course, students will learn the basic and intermediate techniques of classic needle based fiber arts! Three different techniques will be learned-needlepoint, cross-stitch, and basic sewing skills! By the end of the week, students will create a miniature needlepoint, a cross-stitch bookmark, and more!

Fashion Drawing

Students will be able to draw their own fashion figures as well as using special templates to create, color, and learn about the importance of fashion styles in seasons, history, and entertainment. They will use sharpies, markers, and other materials!

Acrylic Painting

Make fun paintings and learn how to work with acrylic paints and use good brush techniques to bring your creations to life on the canvas.

Whimsical Watercolors

Step into a fairytale with this watercolor course! With Whimsical Watercolors, you'll learn basic and advanced watercolor techniques, and create your own fairytale paintings! Students will leave with at least three watercolor paintings, and plenty of skills to add to their artistic repertoire!
Intro to Sculpture

The Sun & the Sea Jewelry
9 AM-12 PM
Celebrate the summer in this jewelry intensive! Create a wire sun pendant on leather cord. Wrap a beautiful piece of sea glass to make a key chain. Use wire and crystals to make a jellyfish sun catcher with moving parts. Students will learn wire weaving, forming, and beading to create summer fun jewelry to last the whole year long.

Mixed Media Self-Portraiture
9 AM-12 PM
Students will learn how to draw realistic portraits using traditional media such as graphite pencils and charcoal to start, and then learn how to bring in color and stylistic choices to make their portraits their own.

Character Design and Story Development
12:30-3:30 PM
In this super fun class, students will have a great time developing their own stories and characters. They will about storyboarding, character styles, coloring, story plots. They will be able to work in a small group or individually. Students will have the opportunity to work digitally using ProCreate, as well as with traditional drawing materials.

Collage and Book Arts
12:30-3:30 PM
Learn how to make various types of folded books, such as Zine and accordion books. After making the books, students will fill their books using different collage techniques.

Use the grid method to transfer an image of your choice to canvas, and then paint to bring your animal to life!
