October Volunteer Spotlight 2022

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on volunteers to spotlight. For October 2022, we wanted to recognize a volunteer who is a familiar face at the Wind Creek Steel Stage and in the MusikFest Café: Kevin Sirotnak!

Q: What inspired you to begin volunteering?
A: My mother inspired me to start volunteering by her example. She volunteered at our church, St John’s in Easton and Meals on Wheels. When they formed a Musikfest corporate group where I worked at Travel Impressions, I eagerly joined and have volunteered every year since. It’s been close to 15 years now.

Q: What is something your fellow volunteers would be surprised to learn about you?
A: I’ve travelled the world quite a lot. Right out of college, I did a work exchange program allowing me to work in London for 6 months. Every weekend, I went to a new city or European country. After that experience, I went to Europe for a month each summer for about 10 years. Once I was laid off of my job and spent 3 month in France. My last big trip was 5 Asian countries in 5 weeks in 2013. Around these 3 big trips I’ve done smaller trips to many other countries. It’s a big world and my travel bucket list is still long.

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere besides ArtsQuest?
A: In 2021, I volunteered for CCA’s Celtic Classic and will again this year 9/23-24. I will also be participating, in honor of my mother, at the ALZ Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the ArtsQuest Center on 9/24.

Q:What is your favorite part of volunteering at MusikFest?
A: My favorite part of Musikfest is getting the opportunity to welcome people, especially first timers, to the Fest and getting to volunteer with such wonderful people. Of course, I do love the great music too! I had the pleasure to introduce the French intern, staying with us to MusikFest Volunteering this year and he loved it.

Q:Other than MusikFest, what is your favorite Lehigh Valley event?
A: I live in Easton and love our 2 fall festivals, Bacon Fest and Garlic Fest!

Q: If you could pick any act to play at Musikfest, who would you pick and why?
A: : Lady Gaga who would appeal to a wide audience with her pop music as well as jazz standards and her work, especially in the LGBTQIA community, through her Born This Way Foundation which supports the mental health of young people and works with them to build a kinder and braver world.
