Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center
Visual Art Instruction
Throughout the year, a Banana Factory artist meets weekly with several residents of the Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center, teaching them a variety of visual art techniques including drawing, painting and mixed media. Students are encouraged to create a personal vision in this program, which is an extracurricular addition to their daily schedule. Since the program's inception, the residents have created several murals throughout the center.
Video/Mural Project
2005 began the first in a series of video/ mural projects that have taken place at the Juvenile Justice Center. In each project, students, artists and faculty identify members of the community who have overcome some level of adversity. Each student then writes and schedules an interview with each person, interviews the community member while video taping, edits the video tape into viewable segments and designs individual murals for each person.
