DATE: July 16, 2010
CONTACT: Mark Demko, 610-332-1300 ext. 342 or mdemko@artsquest.org

BETHLEHEM, PA—Musikfest™ has announced new opening acts for two of its Sands RiverPlace concerts. Folk singer-songwriter Elvis Perkins will open for Norah Jones on Aug. 7 and teenage “American Idol” sensation Allison Iraheta will open the Aug. 13 Adam Lambert with Orianthi performance.

Elvis Perkins is the lead guitar player for his American folk-rock band Elvis Perkins in Dreamland. Perkins is known for his eclectic range of influences and his autobiographical approach to acoustic storytelling. The Hudson Valley songwriter gained notoriety for his 2007 studio album debut, “Ash Wednesday.” Last year, his band released a self-titled record that earned critical acclaim for its thoughtful lyrics and dynamic instrumentation.

Perkins will present a solo performance in support of Norah Jones. Gates for the show will open at 6 p.m., and Perkins is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Allison Iraheta is a young pop-rock singer from Los Angeles who was the fourth-place finalist on the eighth season of “American Idol.” Iraheta won praise on the 2009 talent show for her mix of pop, R&B and rock, as well as for her confidence and enthusiasm. She is also an accomplished Spanish-language vocalist, winning the top prize on the Telemundo variety showcase “Quinceañera” in 2006.

Iraheta will be performing material from her 2009 album, “Just Like You.” With her addition to the Adam Lambert with Orianthi lineup, the concert will now begin at 6:45 p.m. instead of 7:15 p.m.; gates for the show will open at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the Norah Jones and Adam Lambert concerts are still available. To purchase tickets, visit www.musikfest.org or call 610-332-3378.

Musikfest 2010, which is presented by ArtsQuest, will take place 5-11 p.m. Aug. 6 and noon-11 p.m. Aug. 7-15. The festival, which attracts more than one million people annually, will include 480 musical performances on 14 indoor and outdoor stages throughout Bethlehem’s historic 18th-century downtown. In addition, the event will feature delicious food and desserts by more than 60 vendors, a variety of children’s activities, visual arts and crafts and a closing-night fireworks display.
