LYNYRD SKYNYRD TO ROCK MUSIKFEST’S SANDS RIVERPLACE AUG. 9

BETHLEHEM, PA—Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Lynyrd Skynyrd is the first act announced for Musikfest 2010, the 10-day music and arts festival that will take place Aug. 6-15 in downtown Bethlehem, Pa. The southern rock legends, who were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006, will perform at the Sands RiverPlace main stage at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9.

Formed in Jacksonville, Fla. more than 35 years ago, Lynyrd Skynyrd rose to prominence in the 1970s with a string of hits that included “Sweet Home Alabama,” “What’s Your Name,” “Saturday Night Special,” “Gimme Three Steps” and the rock anthem “Free Bird.” During its lengthy career, the band has issued more than 60 recordings and sold more than 30 million albums.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s most recent recording is the fall 2009 release “God & Guns,” the first set of new material by the group since 2003’s “Vicious Cycle.” The band’s Musikfest 2010 concert will be its second appearance at the festival. On Aug. 8, 2000, the group performed to a sold-out audience during the inaugural year of RiverPlace.

Media sponsor for the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert is 99.9 The Hawk. Tickets for the show will go on sale Monday-Tuesday, March 15-16 to ArtsQuest Members only and Friday, March 19 to the public.
