June Volunteer Spotlight

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on a volunteer to spotlight! This month, the committee chose Neal & Scuba – are Musikfest Set Up Gurus! These gentlemen are dedicated set up volunteers and you will see them around the festival as well – please be sure to thank them!

Q: When did you first start volunteering with Musikfest? What made you want to get involved?
A: After attending Musikfest for the first time in 1985, I knew that I had to get involved. It was like an enormous community reunion that was destined to grow throughout our great town of Bethlehem. It was an exciting time seeing friends and neighbors coming together for what has become a yearly celebration.

Q: What roles do you fill during Musikfest? Which position is your favorite and why?
A: My involvement with Musikfest begins two weeks prior to the festival with set up. During Musikfest, I am the evening Site Supervisor of Festplatz. I’ve held this position since the year 1988 to the present time. It is the greatest feeling on the first night when sign in starts and the reunion of old friends and the meeting of new friends begin. When the festival is over, I am also involved with the take down.

Q: How has the festival changed since you first started volunteering?
A: In the early years almost everything was planned and accomplished with a lot of time and effort by volunteers. As the festival has grown over the years, more of the planning and work is being done by staff personnel. Presently, this great event has the most hard working and professional staff ever. They are a pleasure to work with.

Q: What are you most looking forward to at the 2018 Musikfest?
A: Great music, great food and above all wonderful people. It is always fun to greet the volunteers on the first night sign in and renew old friendships. Let the party begin gain!

Q: When did you first start volunteering with Musikfest? What made you want to get involved?
A: 2008

Q: What roles do you fill during Musikfest? Which position is your favorite and why?
A: My involvement was a strong participant since 1984. In 2008, heavy pressure from a 35 year volunteer got me to start volunteering. I volunteer with operations – putting up signs and banners, set up and take down. I am also on the Food & Beverage committee and am a vendor evaluator. I tap beer, sell tickets and fill in wherever needed.

Q: What are you most looking forward to at the 2018 Musikfest?
A: New food offerings, YUM!
