Director of Foundation and Government Relations


MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITY:

Develop and maintain relationships with government and foundation funding agencies; research, compose and submit grant proposals; monitor grant funding; coordinate outcomes information and file interim and final reports as required by the granting agency.

This position is to seek grants for all ArtsQuest programs as well as resident partners in the new ArstQuest operated SteelStax Performing Arts Center, namely: Bethlehem Opera Theatre, Hispanic American League of Artists, Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and Pennsylvania Youth Theatre.

This position reports to the President.

TASKS:
  • Identify potential grant sources and funds available, including local, state and federal government agencies, as well as local, regional and national foundations.
  • Work with ArtsQuest Directors of Performing Arts; Visual Arts and Education and the President, as well as the appropriate staff of the SteelStax Resident Partners to determine organization and community needs for ArtsQuest and the SteelStax Resident Partners, and match funding requests to appropriate funding sources.
  • Research possible grants through contacts with grant and resource personnel, review of foundation literature and examination of public information for government agencies.
  • Share special grant availability information with the appropriate staff if the appropriate organization(s), meet with appropriate staff to develop grant proposals and foster collaborative efforts between the organizations.
  • Compose grants, within foundation or government guidelines, to meet identified needs.
  • Meet with potential funders to clarify and advocate for grant proposals.
  • Work with staff to develop and monitor metrics or outcome information needed by the organization and/or the funding agency.
  • Complete all necessary reporting documents.
  • Meet with foundation or government contacts on a regular basis to keep them up to date on the organization’s progress.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Potential grant sources will be identified via literature from the philanthropic community, news releases, engagement in and knowledge of the community, and other appropriate research methods.
  • Progress will be demonstrated in developing skills and experiences in tasks associated with this major job responsibility.
  • All proposals will be error free and grammatically correct
  • All documentation will be accurate and filed in a timely manner
  • Representation of the organization will be professional at all times
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A Candidate is being sought with broad skills and knowledge of foundation and government funding. Experience in grants for arts and education programs is helpful but not required.

He or she will:

  • Have five to ten years of grant writing experience in a position of comparable responsibility
  • Be able to demonstrate success in obtaining grants, and in building and maintaining long term relationships with foundations and government agencies;
  • Have superb writing skills, and be able to communicate effectively the programs and projected outcomes for the organizations.
  • Understand, and can ensure, the organization’s compliance to ethical principles as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals;
  • Have the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Have excellent computer skills, especially for filing grants on line as required by many foundations and government agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

ArtsQuest offices are smoke-free. The ability to work harmoniously in a small staff environment is required. Working long and unusual hours, including some evenings and weekends, is common. ArtsQuest supports and encourages personal development in your field.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The salary is open and will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, term life, and disability insurance, as well as a 403(b) retirement plan.

Part-Time & Seasonal Positions

 


Merchandise Sales Associate


(festival position only)

FUNCTIONS

  • Assists Merchandise Staff in promoting and selling Musikfest related Merchandise.
  • Assists CD Sales Manager in promoting and selling performer related Merchandise.
  • Responsible for “cash-in” and “cash-out” procedures.
  • Assists Director of Merchandise in roving merchandise sales.
  • Responsible for making proper change for customer purchases, when applicable.
  • Provides customer service to patrons, as needed.
  • Must be able to follow basic, proper radio transmission etiquette.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Merchandise

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 16 or older.
  • Must have a friendly and outgoing personality.
  • Previous money handling experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work outdoors.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to manage time efficiently.
  • Must have basic knowledge of festival grounds.

HOURS

Daily during Musikfest only (August 1st-10th, 2008). Hours from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.

RiverPlace Event Staff


(festival position only)

FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides access control to restricted areas.
  • Staff various posts and gates within the festival grounds.
  • Assists with vehicle and pedestrian access.
  • Assists ushers in seating, as needed.
  • Assists with managing the crowd.
  • Provides guest with directions or venue information, if requested.
  • Requires knowledge of festival policies and procedures.
  • Ensures a safe and fun environment for all guests and performers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be friendly and personable.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work well with others.
  • Must be available nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work outdoors.

HOURS:

Daily during Musikfest only (August 1st-10th, 2008). Hours from Noon to midnight.
